galerie OPEN by Alexandra Rockelmann freut sich den renommierten New Yorker Photographen Brian Finke mit der Serie "Flight Attendants" und Kathleen Vance mit "Traveling Landscapes" vorzustellen. Beide Künstler setzen sich mit der Luftfahrt auf ihre eigene Art auseinander.
In den nachgebauten und transportablen Landschaften der New Yorker Künstlerin Kathleen Vance, beschäftigt sie sich mit dem Inhalt verschiedenster Formen in der Natur, die Wachstum zeigen und die Umwandlungen der damit verwandten Formen, die aus diesem Wachstumsprozess heraus entstehen. Sie baut die Landschaften in Koffer, welche sie überall auf der Welt findet und schickt sie auf Flugreisen, um den Einluss der Menschen in der Natur widerzuspiegeln. In einer Erforschung der natürlichen Systeme des Wachstums, reinterpretiert sie Natur, um den Zusammenhang dieser Systeme innerhalb unserer Arbeitsgesellschaft herzustellen und zu definieren und empfindet Natur als Umwelt sowie ein unberührbares Konzept. Indem man direkt Natur bezieht, wird ihr materieller Ursprung verlegt und reaktiviert, um ein anderes unwahrscheinliches Treffen zu verursachen und stellt menschliche Entlassung vom Natürlichen und von ihrer Tendenz zu versuchen, Natur zu steuern, heraus. Punkte der Versetzung ansprechend, definiert sie das menschliche Konstruieren der Grenzen zwischen der natürlichen und künstlichen Welt.
Flying the friedly skies, durchquerte Brian Finke zuerst die Vereinigten Staaten und photographiert das Flugpersonal der Delta, Jet Blue, Hawaian Airlines, bevor er sich ins Ausland mit Fluggesellschaften wie Air France, Quantas und Britisch Airways begab. In London besuchte er einen Sicherheits-Kurse an der Stewardess Schule. Danach setzte er seine Reise in den Osten fort, indem er mit Air Aisa, Thai, Tiger, ANA, Japan und Cathay Pacific flog. Finke vollendete seine zweijährige Reise mit der glanzvollen Icelandair. Das Resultat der Wanderlust von Brian Finke ist in der "Flight Attendants" Serie ersichtlich, eine Kollektion von dynamischen Photographien dokumentiert das Leben von den abenteuerlustigen Seelen, welche sich dazu beschlossen haben in 12.000m Höhe zu arbeiten. Die Werke entstanden vor, während und nach den Flügen, sie halten die Faszination der Profession des high-flying und die etwas zurückgezogenen Momente des täglichen Lebens der Flug-Crew fest. Finke fühlt sich der charakteristischen Dynamik von Gruppen-Anordnungen hingezogen, mit der Fokussierung auf uniformierte Individuen, welche eingeübte Tätigkeiten ausführen. Mit einem Blick für das Ironische wie auch Absurde, verbindet Finke das Glamouröse mit dem Legeren nahtlos und offeriert dadurch einen unvergesslichen Einblick in die Industrie der Luft-Reisen und der dazu gehörigen Personen.

galerie OPEN by Alexandra Rockelmann is pleased to introduce the well known New York photographer Brian Finke with "the Flight Attendants"" and the installation of Kathleen Vance with the "Travelling Landscapes" series. Both artists inspect the air travel in their own way.
In the rebuilt and transportable Landscapes of the New York artist Kathleen Vance, she deals with issues involving the varied forms in nature that are indicative of growth, and the transformations that occur in the growth processes relative to these forms. She builds the landscapes in suite cases, which she finds around the world and sends them by air travel, in order to show the influence of human kind on nature. In an exploration of natural systems of growth, she reinterprets nature to establish and define the context of these systems within our working society, perceiving nature as an environment as well as an intangible concept. By referencing nature directly, its material origin is displaced and reactivated to create an otherwise unlikely encounter, exposing human's dismissal of the natural and their tendency to attempt to control nature. Addressing issues of displacement, the philosophy of what is natural, what forms indicate the natural and how the context affects the meaning and identity of these forms, she defines the human construct of the boundaries between the natural and the artificial world.
Flying the friendly skies, Brian Finke crisscrossed the United States photographing flight attendants on Delta, JetBlue, Hawaiian, Hooters Air, Southwest, and Song airlines before going abroad with such carriers as Air France, Qantas and British Airways. In London, Finke visited a flight attendant school with emergency rafts and billowing smoke. Then continuing east, he traveled with Air Asia, Thai, Tiger, ANA, Japan and Cathay Pacific. He finished two years of travel with the illustrious Icelandair. The result of Finke's wanderlust is his series "Flight Attendants", a vibrant collection of photographs documenting the lives of those souls who choose to work at 40,000 feet. Shot before, during and after flights, the photographs capture the allure of the high-flying profession alongside the more quiet moments of the attendants daily lives. He is drawn to the distinctive dynamics of team formation, focusing on uniformed individuals executing practiced actions. With an eye for the ironic and the absurd, he seamlessly blends the glamorous with the casual, offering a look at the people of the air travel industry.
